James Pomeroy

James "Jim" Pomeroy, 93, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, at Autumn Trace in Plymouth, Indiana.Jim was born on March 12, 1933, in Plymouth, Indiana, to Stewart and Vera Pomeroy. He was raised and educated in Argos, Indiana, where he developed strong values, work ethic, and love for family that would guide him throughout his life.On June 2, 1951, Jim married his fifth-grade sweetheart, Shirley Garner, beginning a loving partnership that would span many decades. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and service to others.Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1953 during the Korean War, serving aboard a destroyer-minesweeper ship. Following his military service, he and his family moved to Bremen in 1955, where he would become a respected businessman and community leader.His career began at Bremen Bearing, where he worked for 11 years. He then spent another 11 years at Ristance Wire, serving as Plant Manager. In 1978, Jim and Shirley pursued their entrepreneurial dreams by opening the Fashion Gallery/Male Room clothing store in Bremen. Missing the manufacturing industry, Jim founded Almega/Tru Flex Wire in 1980 and successfully operated the business until his retirement in 1994. In 1990, he partnered with Rich Carr and Dick Piliponis to establish Copperfield, a manufacturer of copper wire and cable, in Bremen.Retirement allowed Jim to devote more time to one of his greatest passions, golf. He achieved two memorable holes-in-one at Sprig O' Mint Golf Course, the first in 2002 and the second in 2015.Jim was deeply committed to his community and his faith. He attended Nappanee Missionary Church and participated in numerous mission efforts, traveling to Mexico and El Salvador, and serving through Bethel College's Keller Park Mission. He also served on the Bremen Community Hospital Board and contributed his time and leadership to several civic committees throughout the Bremen community.Above all else, Jim loved his family. He cherished attending his grandsons' sporting events and created treasured memories by taking each grandson on a fishing trip to Canada. His greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved.Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley; his sisters, Lila Parrish, Evelyn Beam, and Peggy Kring; and his brother, Robert Pomeroy.He is survived by his son, Doug (Nan) Pomeroy; his daughter, Karen Pomeroy; his grandsons, DJ (Allison) Pomeroy, Jim (Stacy) Pomeroy, Joshua Daumer, and Mitchell (Jessica) Daumer; 10 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.Visitation will be held at Nappanee Missionary Church Chapel, 70417 St. Rd. 19, Nappanee, on Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 4:00-8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 18, 2026, in the Nappanee Missionary Church Worship Center, with one hour of visitation prior. Pastor David Engbrect will officiate. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cultivate Food Rescue, 1403 Prairie Avenue, South Bend, IN 46613. Jim's legacy of faith, entrepreneurship, service, generosity, and unwavering love for his family will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
