James D. Steinhagen, 57, passed away on March 1, 2026. Jimmy was born on October 11, 1968, in Mishawaka. He grew up in Wyatt and spent the majority of his life in Mishawaka, a community he proudly called home. He dedicated many years of service to the City of Mishawaka, taking pride in serving the town and the people he knew so well.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sue A. Bacsa, who passed away in 2018. He is survived by his father, Darrell K. Steinhagen; his beloved daughter, Madison M. Steinhagen; his sisters, Sandra D. Moser (Todd) and Amy L. Newton (David); and his cherished nieces and nephews, Timothy (Amber) Moser, Haley Luther, Eddy (Hailee) Luther, Trisha Moser, and Tyler (Bri) Moser.
Whether you called him Jimmers, or Mij, Jimmy was truly the life of the party. A natural jokester, he had a gift for making everyone laugh and could light up any room with his humor, which he gained from hours spent watching The Three Stooges. He cherished his friends deeply and treasured any time spent with them. Whether gathered around sharing stories or simply enjoying each other’s company, those moments meant everything to him. Jimmy loved being outdoors, whether it be mushroom hunting, playing all 18 holes of golf, floating on the water with friends or cooking up a big bonfire. He was never afraid to rough it in the great outdoors, even if it meant sacrificing a shirt now and then. He was a one-of-a-kind, free-spirited man who we loved dearly.
A memorial visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, March 19, 2026 in Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen to celebrate his life and share stories with the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his daughter to help with future expenses.
