Jolene Marie Capes, 73, of Bremen, died at 7:30 am, Thursday, November 1, 2018 in Catherine Kasper Home. She was born in Bremen to Stuart M. and Blanche M. (Smith) Hummel on October 15, 1945. She married Stephen Richard Capes, Sr. on December 27th 1963. He passed away on June 8, 2007. She is survived by four children; Sherri and Monty Dunning of Bremen, Sheila and David Kelty of Nappanee, Shelly and BJ Schrome of Waxahachie, TX and Stephen Capes Jr. of Bremen, 12 grandchildren; Abby Dunning (John Bolle) of Vandalia MI, TSgt Benjamin Dunning of Converse, TX, Charlie and Amber Dunning of Bremen, Nathan Kelty (Amador Bustamante) of Las Vegas, NV, Josh and Susanne Kelty of Alexandria, VA, Sean and Kara Kelty of Indianapolis, IN, Olivia Kelty of Nappanee, Keri and Andrew Main of Nappanee, Mark Schrome of Waxahachie, TX, Heather Schrome of West Layfette, IN, Roxanna Capes and Stephanie Capes, both of Bremen, and six great-grandchildren; Alexa Kelty, Jonah Kelty, Joscelyn King, Trenton Alexander, Cole Main and Layla Dunning. Surviving siblings are Teresa Splix of Plymouth, Kay Miller of Plymouth, Elaine and Paul Ringer of Plymouth and Doug and Lillian Hummel of Crossville, TN. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She had many family friends that called her “Grandma Jo”. She was a lifetime resident of Bremen, graduating from Bremen High School in 1963. She retired from the workforce where she held many jobs throughout Bremen over the years, including Bremen Auto Parts, Ristance Wire, and TJ Snuggles. She was the working mom that volunteered as room mother, baked treats for classes and went on field trips. She came to school for her children and grandchildren no matter what they needed. She was very active and helped with the children in 4-H, Band Boosters, Blue Birds, Campfire Girls, Salem United Methodist Church, and PTA just to name a few. Jolene and Steve taught their children to lend a hand to anyone in need without expecting anything in return. We would like to celebrate her life. Visitation will be held from 2:00-6:00 pm, Sunday, November 4, 2018 in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd. 331, Bremen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, November 5, 2018 in the funeral home, with one hour of visitation prior. Pastor Brad Thornton will officiate. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery.
