Joshua S. Van Houten

January 4, 1982 — March 4, 2025

Joshua Steven Van Houten, 43, of Plymouth, IN, left us too soon on March 4, 2025. He was born and raised in Cloverdale, VA, before moving with his family to Brimfield, OH where he graduated from Field High School. Josh continued his education at Manchester University (North Manchester, IN), where he played football and earned a degree in Social Work, graduating in 2004. Josh's career as a social worker at Triton Elementary School for the past 15 years was a testament to his compassionate spirit. He worked to support students and staff, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of working with him. His kindness, dedication, and ability to connect with others made him an invaluable member of the staff. He leaves behind his wife and best friend, Karyn Van Houten, and daughters Megan (Blake) Lemler and Molly McFarland (Zach Klotz). He also leaves his mother, Lisa Van Houten, and his sister, Erin Van Houten. Josh was preceded in death by his father, Steve Van Houten. Josh was a devoted family man, a loving husband and father. Outside of his work, Josh was an avid fisherman and hunter. He cherished time spent outdoors and took immense pride in teaching others the art of fishing and hunting. Whether it was casting a line or guiding others in the woods, he enjoyed the quiet moments that allowed him to share his love of nature and skills with those around him. Josh was a protector of his family, fiercely loyal to those he loved, and always willing to lend a helping hand. His legacy will live on in the memories of those he loved. Josh was a pillar of strength, and though he left us too soon, his impact on the lives of others will remain forever. Visitation will be held from 2:00-6:00 pm, Monday, March 10, 2025 in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd., 331, Bremen. Memorial Service will begin at 6:00 pm in the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dustin’s Place, P.O Box 94, Plymouth, IN 46563
