Landa "Big L" Stone

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Landa Elwood Stone, who passed away on July 26, 2026, at the age of 87.

Born on March 29, 1939, in Salyersville, Kentucky, Landa lived a life marked by determination, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. He grew up in Argos, Indiana, where he graduated from Argos High School. He married the love of his life, Mary Jamison, in West Virginia in 1961. Although his early career took him to several towns and states, he and his family made Bremen, Indiana, their home in 1973. It was there that Landa planted deep roots and spent the remainder of his life in the community he came to love.

Landa built a successful career in the fiberglass industry, serving in management and executive leadership positions for many years. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, he and his wife later founded their own company Standardglas, in Bremen, in 1980, where they worked side by side until his retirement. He took great pride in building a business that reflected his strong work ethic and determination.

His dedication to Bremen extended well beyond his professional life. Landa proudly served as an auxiliary police officer for the Town of Bremen for 30 years, giving countless hours of service to the community he called home.

Landa was truly one of a kind. At times he was bigger than life, with a commanding presence, a strong personality, and a memorable sense of conviction. Whether you agreed with him or not, one thing was certain—if you met Landa, you never forgot him. He left a lasting impression on everyone whose path he crossed. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, collecting guns, and being a member of the Bremen Masonic Lodge. He took great pride in teaching others about these pursuits as well.

He was survived by his children, Jamie (Tami) Stone, Betsy (Ty) Kuhn, and Susan Baker; his grandchildren, Micaela (Keith) Norman, Miranda (Dillon) Swanson, Marysa (Ben) Yoder, Macoy Stone, John Kuhn, Rachael Kuhn, Amanda Baker, and Hunter Baker; and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him tremendous pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary (Jamison) Stone; his parents, Prock and Grace Stone; his brothers, Paul, Albert, Herbert, Ernie, Larry, and Bob Stone; and his sister, Joyce Weaver.

Landa will be remembered for his perseverance, generosity, and his willingness to stand up for what he believed in. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the family he loved.

A time to visit with the family will be held on Saturday, August 22, from 1:00–3:00 p.m. at Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen, with a Masonic Memorial Service immediately following.
