Larry Gene Maxson, 86, of Bremen, passed away peacefully at 4:53 pm, Saturday, January 6, 2024 surrounded by family. Larry was born on March 5, 1937 in Plymouth to the late Russell and Lucile (Thomas) Maxson. On January 29, 1956 at the Lapaz Church of God, he married Diana Garner. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Diana; two children: Kimberlie (Shane) Whitsel and Larry (Dawn) Maxson, both of Bremen; six grandchildren: Chadd (Jen) Johnson, Zach (Jenny) Thompson, Alexia (Mike) Gunderson, Jordan (Lauren) Maxson, Dr. Blaine (Katie) Maxson and Garrett Maxson; and 11 great grandchildren: Sgt. Jacob Johnson, Morgan Thompson, Landon Johnson, Rylee Johnson, Jaiden Gunderson, Jaxson Gunderson, Adalind Maxson, Oliver Maxson, Norah Maxson, Leo Maxson and Ada Maxson. He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Brooke Thompson and four brother-in-law, Dick Bammerlin, Dave Rash, Bernard Rodgers and Mike Garner. He graduated from Lapaz High School in 1955, where he played basketball and was in the band. He served in the Indiana National Guard (Company E 293D Infantry) from 1957-1963 as a Gunner. Larry loved flying model airplanes and fishing, boating and skiing, while living at the Lake of the Woods for 65 years. He was a huge Notre Dame fan and loved watching the games, but most of all he loved watching his kids, grandkids and great grandkids sporting events. Larry was the owner of Kopper Kettle for 14 years and worked at LeSEA Ministries for 16 years in the video department. He also worked for the Bremen School Corp. driving bus for the Bremen Lion’s team and fan alike. He also drove the Elkhart Career bus for 35 years and retired from there in 2010. Larry and Diana loved to travel and spend time in Florida at the beach. Larry had a strong faith in Christ and was a wonderful role model for his family and all who knew him. The family would like to send a special thank you to Nurse Jodi from the Center for Hospice for her care. Visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 pm, Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St Rd 331, Bremen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday in the funeral home with one hour of visitation prior. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery.
