Loretta J. Huff-Smith

Loretta June Huff-Smith, 94, of Bremen, passed away peacefully at 7:21 p.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2026 surrounded by her beloved family. Loretta was born on June 25, 1931, the daughter of Stephen and Edna (Ewald) Hochstetler. On June 26, 1949, she married James B. Huff, her husband of 63 years. Jim passed away on January 23, 2012. She married John Smith on January 1, 2020.

She is survived by three children: Carlene (Tony) Leeper, Max (Linda) Huff, and Rex (Kerry) Huff, husband: John Smith; and eleven grandchildren: Jodi (Chris) Devine, Chad (Becca) Leeper, Brett (Eliza) Leeper, Brad (Brittany) Leeper, Sarah (A.J.) Sime, Matthew (Amanda) Huff, Andrew (Taylor) Huff, Abbey (Kyle) Yoder, Austin (Alex) Huff, Lorinda Kline, and Amanda Kline. Loretta has been blessed with 20 grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, James, daughter, Kristy Kline, sister, Virginia Harrington and brother, Merland Hochstetler.

Loretta lived her life as a devoted Christian woman. She treasured her family, each of her children, and her grandchildren. Their time spent together was cherished equally by each generation. Loretta and Jim witnessed to thousands as they facilitated the Bremen Holy Walk on their farm for 30 years. They generously shared their pond by hosting church and family events. Loretta served the church faithfully her entire life. She enjoyed travelling, gardening, and spending time with dear friends.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2026 at Bremen United Methodist Church, 302 West Plymouth Street, Bremen. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon and burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery. Pastor Max Milton and Pastor Chuck Krieg will officiate.
