Loving father, grandfather, & husband, Lowell Keith Martin, 88, of Bremen, passed away at 2:25 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the Community Hospital of Bremen. Lowell was born on August 30, 1935, at the home of his parents (at 111 Dewey Street, Bremen), Brison and Chloe (Kipfer) Martin. He graduated from Bremen High School in 1953 and he married DeMariss “Dee” Horvath on February 25, 1956. Lowell & Dee lived in Bremen where they raised five children and hosted decades of family reunions. Lowell’s bride, Dee, has been waiting for Lowell to join her in Heaven since October 27, 1998. Lowell was a humble community servant, with a charismatic sense of humor and he left a legacy of love that will last for generations! He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, cooking, socializing, and serving people in need. With a passion for conservation and all animals, except maybe cats, Lowell always seemed to have a trusted beagle at his side. He was also a member of the Bremen Jaycees, the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Marshall County Coon Hunters’ Association, and the Indiana Volunteer Fireman’s Association. In his younger days, Lowell worked as a truck driver for the Bremen Gray Iron Foundry and Bowser Sand & Gravel. He joined the Bremen Fire Department in 1968, and he was appointed the Chief of the Bremen Fire Department in 1981. Lowell retired as the Superintendent of the Bremen Electric Department in 1997, after working twenty-nine years for the Town of Bremen. In 2009, he was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bremen Chamber of Commerce. Lowell is survived by one sibling, Erma June Pittman, and all five children — James (DeAnn) of Bremen, Judith (Gerrit) Brinkhoff of Bremen, Richard (Aldona) of Bremen, Nancy Cox of Plymouth, and Sharon (Bruce) Jennings of Bremen. In addition, Lowell was loved by nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Grandchildren are Billie Jo Roeder, Jacob Brinkhoff, Adam Brinkhoff, Brison Martin, Britney Dominguez, Martin “Abe” Hundt, Abby Dunlap-Hundt, Jaclyn Miller and Justin Jennings. In addition to his wife, Lowell is preceded in death by his parents, Brison and Chloe (Kipfer) Martin, son-in-law Kim Cox, and eight older siblings: Robert, Dale, Marjorie, Walter, Dewey, Mildred, Ivar, & Brison, Jr. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27 at the Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St Rd 331, Bremen. A private graveside service will occur at the Bremen Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Marshall County Humane Society, P.O. Box 22, Plymouth, IN 46563.
