Martha Kay Boyer, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home on September 18, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born on June 20, 1935 in Lapaz, Indiana, Martha was the youngest of seven children to Chester Hill and Cecilia Ayres. She graduated from Lapaz High School in 1952, and married the love of her life, William Andrew Boyer, on July 18, 1952. Together, they welcomed daughter Claudia in January 1953, followed by son Ricky in December of the same year.
Martha’s work ethic and charm were evident in her years as a waitress, where she often reminisced, “Back in my day, I was lucky to get a quarter for a tip.” Later, she found joy working at L.S. Ayers, where she sold Clinique products and built lasting friendships.
After Claudia’s unexpected passing, Martha and Bill lovingly raised her son, Jesse, creating a home filled with warmth and resilience. In 1985, the trio built a house west of Lapaz, where they cared for horses, dogs, and cats, and made cherished memories on fishing trips to Wisconsin.
Following Bill’s passing, Martha and Jesse remained on the farm until it became too much to maintain. In 2004, Martha built a new home in Bremen, where she spent the last 21 years surrounded by neighbors who became like family. Jesse, Penny, and their son Noah lived just down the street, always close by to visit and lend a hand.
Martha had a deep love for music, especially Vince Gill, whose concerts she attended with her niece Georgia and whose songs lulled her to sleep each night. She found comfort in Hallmark movies and the series Heartland, and she treasured time spent with loved ones—especially holidays and birthdays at Grandma’s house.
A woman of faith and kindness, Martha was an avid reader of the Bible, a collector of birdhouses, and a devoted caretaker of her two dogs Kinsey and Miley. Her gentle spirit and loving heart touched everyone she met.
Martha is survived by her grandsons Jesse (Penny, Noah) and Toby (Maranda, Brynlee, Lydia). She was preceded in death by her husband William, daughter Claudia, and son Rick.
Grandma Martha will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
