Michael McIntyre, 66, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, on Friday, January 9, 2026, in Indianapolis, after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born November 6, 1959, in Toledo, Ohio to John and Sandra McIntyre, Mike lived a life defined by quiet integrity and a steadfast commitment to doing things right. Showing up (preferably early) was the only option.
His strong work ethic saw him through Indiana University South Bend, leading him to a fulfilling career which he loved. Starting with a role in corporate accounting at Wheel Horse and then Ristance, Mike spent the bulk of his career pivoting the family construction business into an area leader in the insurance restoration industry. He took immense pride and satisfaction in helping Michiana residents navigate the insurance & construction processes to get back into their home. In his final years, Mike enjoyed using his expertise to help homeowners across the region as an independent adjuster. He treasured the connections made throughout this work and considered many colleagues and clients as extended family.
When not working (which happened rarely), Mike was an avid reader, to such an extent that it wasn’t uncommon to find him reading during concerts at area vineyards with his wife, Rhonda. The two also cherished antiquing and searching for the perfect pizza. He was a skilled home chef who enjoyed experimenting with new kitchen gadgets to master steaks, prime rib, pasta, and pizza for his family. But his greatest joy was watching his family grow and thrive. He followed his children's countless travels and adventures with immense pride, living vicariously through their experiences. He delighted in visiting his daughters, whether on the West Coast or in Carmel, and he enjoyed annual fishing trips to Canada with his son, father, and friends. For years, he faithfully cheered on his children and grandson across multiple sports.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Rhonda (Sheets) McIntyre; his parents, John and Sandra McIntyre; his children, Lynn (Jeff) Rowe of Carmel, IN, Alex (Ashley) McIntyre of Goshen, IN, and Laura (Ted) Koen of San Francisco, CA; and his grandsons, Baylor Rowe and Oliver McIntyre. He was preceded in death by his brother, Keith McIntyre, and his granddaughter, Vivian Rowe. He also leaves behind his faithful companions, Bonnie and Baxter.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 23, 2026, at Bremen Community & Performing Arts Center, 214 E. South St. Bremen, IN, from 3:00-6:00pm.
