The love of her life, Gerald Higgins, returned from serving as a Seabee in the Philippines in November 1945 and they married on Christmas Day that same year. Gerald passed away in October of 2004 and her youngest son, Kevin was killed in an automobile accident in April 2010. As well as, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Gerald and Nancy moved to the Lake of the Woods, where their three children grew up and all graduated from Bremen High School. Gerald did a great deal of construction work and Nancy was a homemaker raising the children. She later took a job as a cook at the Bremen Schools and retired from there after 21 years in 1993. She was a wonderful cook and also loved to crochet and garden. She was an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary for many years. Her grandkids were very special to her and she really enjoyed when they came to visit. The family would like to thank the staff at the Waters of Wakarusa and Caring Cove Hospice for all the compassion and care bestowed upon “Fancy Nancy”, her favorite nickname from some of the staffers. A graveside service will be at the Bremen Cemetery Mausoleum on Friday May 17, 2024 at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bremen VFW 8972 Auxiliary.
