Some people are remembered for what they did. Patrick Jacob “Jake” Galloway will be remembered for who he was.
Jake was born on March 21, 1948, to Chuck and Ethel Galloway. As the youngest of five boys, he learned early that life was about keeping up, standing your ground, and finding your place in a family where love was often expressed through laughter, teasing, and unwavering loyalty. Being a Galloway wasn’t simply his last name—it was his identity. His brothers ( Tex, Ed, Bob and Ole) were among his greatest treasures, and each held a special place in his heart throughout his life.
If there was one thing Jake loved as much as his family, it was being a police officer. To say he enjoyed law enforcement would be an understatement. He was a cop’s cop. Whether serving on patrol, working narcotics, or being a member of the bomb squad, he embraced every challenge with pride and purpose. His career gave him a lifetime of unforgettable stories, and if you happened to sit beside him for more than a few minutes, chances are you’d hear one or several. Jake never met a stranger. He had a gift for striking up conversations and making people smile, and he could make anyone feel like they’d known him for years.
On September 12, 1998, Jake married the love of his life, Kathy Galloway. Together they shared a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and adventures. Some of their happiest days were spent at their cabin in Irons, Michigan, where they found peace in the woods and joy in the company of the many Golden Retrievers they adored through the years. Their last beloved Golden, Savannah, now lives with (“her sister”) Jake’s daughter, Shannon.
Jake loved deeply. He loved his family fiercely, his friends wholeheartedly, and his profession with unmistakable passion. He was never shy about sharing his thoughts. In fact, if you knew Jake, you knew you were going to get his opinion, whether you asked for it or not! It was one of the many things people came to love about him. He was genuine, loyal, funny, compassionate, and unforgettable.
Jake was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathy Galloway.
He leaves behind his daughter, Shannon (Arden Lee) Galloway Floran; his granddaughter, Saylor (Tyler) Carrico; his grandson, Joey Bailey, his great-grandson, Harrison Carrico and a great-granddaughter, Riley Bailey, who is expected to arrive in September 2026. Though Riley won’t have the opportunity to meet her great-grandfather, she will grow up hearing the stories of a man whose love for his family helped shape generations. Jake lived a life that was full of purpose, adventure, laughter, and love. He leaves behind countless memories, unforgettable stories, and a family forever grateful to have called him theirs.
Per his wishes, cremation will take place and a celebration of his life will be held later.
And from his daughter…
Dad, to the world you were Patrick Jacob Galloway. To me, you were simply Poppy. Thank you for your strength, your wisdom, your stories, and your unconditional love. My heart will miss you every day, but I find comfort knowing that love like yours never truly leaves us. I love you, Poppy. Until we meet again
