B. Patrick Monhaut, age 85, of Bremen, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, Sept 24, 2024, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Carmel, Indiana. Pat was born on April 12, 1939, the son of Harry and Margaret (Dundon) Monhaut. Pat was a resident of Bremen for eighty years. After graduating from Madison High School, Pat worked on the family farm. He later got a job at Dodges as the maintenance man. He was quite skilled at fixing any machine that broke down. He retired from Dodges after more than thirty years. Pat met Joyce N. Maenhout in 1962 at a Rural Youth event. The two fell in love and were married on May 11, 1963, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger, Indiana. Pat and Joyce moved into a home in Bremen, Indiana, and made Bremen their residence for fifty-seven years. In February of 2020, they moved to Brownsburg, Indiana, to be closer to their daughters in the Indianapolis area. Due to the pandemic, Pat moved in with his daughter for a short period of time before moving to an apartment at Sunrise Assisted Living in Carmel, Indiana. Pat loved his family and supported them so his wife could be a stay-at-home mom for thirteen years raising their three daughters. He was a devoted member at Saint Dominic’s Catholic Church and volunteered as an usher for several years. In Pat’s free time, he enjoyed gardening, playing sports, and being a part of the football chain gang. He spent many hours watching his daughters play sports or sing in the swing choir. Joyce and Pat loved to play cards with family. For years they played in a Euchre group with friends they had known since their youth. They also enjoyed camping and went on many adventures across the United States. A yearly camping excursion with their grandchildren was a special one. Those who were age five and older would spend a weekend camping with their grandma and grandpa. It was a big deal for their grandchildren to turn the age of five. Pat and Joyce cheered on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and followed all Bremen High School athletics. Pat was a loving, funny, and joyful person who hosted several family events. He loved to make people laugh and have fun; he was quite the jokester. Family, friends, and those whose lives he touched loved him dearly. Pat will be missed. Pat was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, his parents, his grandson, Eric Schaefer, his sisters: Margaret, Ruth, and Helen, his brothers: Joseph, Edward, Ralph, and Richard. Surviving him are three daughters: Beverly (Robert) Kent of Brownsburg, Laura (Robert) Schaefer of Zionsville, Sharon (Gregory) Stump of Prospect, KY; seven grandchildren: Ross (Rachel) Kent, Allison (Jake) Schmidt, Grant (Erica) Kent, Adam & Ryan (Victoria) Schaefer, Hayden (Natalie) & Jordan Stump; Three great-grandchildren: Odi and Xenia Schaefer, Luella Schmidt; two Sisters: Cecila (Bill) Dolan, Joan Richards and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM– 12:00 PM at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Bremen, Indiana, on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12:00 p.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church followed by a graveside service in Bremen Cemetery.
