My mother often said, “When you stop moving, you might as well call it quits.” Faithful to these words, she kept going for almost 95 years until February 13, 2018. My mother lived in her own home in Bremen, Indiana, a lifelong resident. She still drove everywhere she wanted to go, and made daily trips to visit her friend, Doris Snider at Millers in Wakarusa. I like to think of my mom as legendary in Bremen where she rarely missed any sporting event in town, never skipped an invitation to be with friends, loved an evening at Hooples, and often drove through the countryside to see how the corn was growing with her good friend, John Graverson until his passing. A fond birthday memory, her 94 th , was being serenaded by passengers on the South Shore on her trip to Chicago to visit all of us. Bremen was mom’s world until she too moved to Millers in Wakarusa. Mom was artistic, an avid reader, kept journals, and was an accomplished knitter. In other times, she traveled to Europe and visited many countries, of course, Germany, Mom’s ancestor’s home. She and my father Loren Waltz ran the Bremen Theatre during his life. Eventually she sold the theatre that is still in operation. She will be lovingly missed by her family, Jennifer Buehler Shaw, (Robert) two grandchildren Aaron Buehler (Lizzie) and Elizabeth Fleming, and three great granddaughters, Audrey, Leighton, and Elsa, (of Barrington, Illinois) and countless Bremen friends. Animals, especially cats were her special love. Donations in her name would be welcome for any amount to the Marshall County Humane Society, 11165 13th Rd., Plymouth, IN 46563. A Memorial Service will be held on February 24 at noon at First United Church of Christ, 323 S. Center St., Bremen. A time for sharing memories will be held at the church beginning at 10:30. Lunch to follow.
