Rebecca Irvin

Becky Irvin passed away at home on July 9, 2021 at age 75. Becky was born in Elkhart, Indiana on December 30, 1945 to the late John and Fern Detwiler, the last of their nine children. She was a 1964 graduate of Concord High School. In 1968 she graduated from Manchester College with a degree in Elementary Education, and from 1968 to 1972 she taught at Concord Eastside School. On June 7, 1970, she was united in marriage to George Irvin, Jr. They were married for 51 years. Becky left the teaching profession in 1972 to raise her two children, but she stayed involved in the lives of children by running a daycare for the children of others. She cared for many children over a span of close to 20 years. She was an integral part of the lives of her grandchildren, raising her grandsons after the death of their mother. Her family was the most important focus in her life. They will miss her dearly. Becky loved to sew and go to garage sales and estate sales. She was an avid doll collector and accumulated well over 50 dolls. Becky is survived by her husband, George and son Jonathan, brother Fred Detwiler, and sister Mary Rinehart. She is also survived by grandsons Ellis (Abigail) Whitt, Bradley Whitt, and Jacob (Jessil) Whitt. Also surviving are granddaughters Kierston Irvin and Jacelyn Ellinger. Becky was great-grandmother to Ezra Whitt, Madeline, Maverick, and Luka Villa. In addition several nieces and nephews survive. Becky was preceded in death by her daughter Angela M. Whitt Ellinger, brothers John and Paul Detwiler and sisters Sarah, Ruby, Janet, and Pearl. Visitation will be held at the Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 IN-331, Bremen, IN 46506 on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 during the hours of 4:00-8:00 pm. The services will be held for family members by invitation only. The Reverend Jason Thompson will officiate. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery.
