Robert M. Bennitt

May 18, 1945 — November 5, 2022

Robert (Bob) Merl Bennitt, 77, entered his Heavenly home on November 5, 2022.  He was born on May 18, 1945, in Bremen, IN to Paul LaVern and Minnie Ellen (Stombaugh) Bennitt.  He graduated from Bremen High School in 1963 and married Judy Jean Sherk on July 27, 1963, at Community Gospel Church in Bremen. Bob is survived by his dearly loved wife of 59 years, Judy, and children and spouses: Todd (Jenny) Bennitt, Robin (Chris) Griswold, Chad (Amy) Bennitt and Chris Bennitt, all of Bremen and Rhonda (Mark) Ingle of Nappanee. Bob and Judy were blessed with 14 grandchildren:  Laura (Kirk) Bates, Lenae (Chase) Cassel, Lacey Bennitt, Matthew (Miaka) Ingle, Maci Waddington, Taylor (Jacob) Henry, Mark Tanner (Tess) Ingle, Dustin Griswold, Jelayne Griswold, Garrett Griswold, Grace Bennitt, Hunter Bennitt, Abigail Bennitt, and Carter Bennitt. Their blessings continued with 15 great-grandchildren: Landon & Luke Bates, Carsyn & Collins Cassel, Christopher, Manda, Sydney, Skye & Elena Ingle, Henley & Kelby Waddington, Bryxton & Tucker Henry, and Teagan & Gunnar Ingle. Siblings include brother Jack (Carolyn) Bennitt and sisters Pam (John) Zeiger, Karen (Joe) Dillon, all of Bremen and Barb (Nick) Kintzel of Warsaw, sister-in-law Cheryl Bennitt of McPherson, KS and brother-in-law Bob Hummel of Wheatland, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenny Bennitt, sister Connie Hummel and great-granddaughter Jailyn Cassel. He worked for Dodge, was part owner of Star Cap, and was in the trucking industry driving for Preston and Holland for 27 years.  He retired in 2007 and enjoyed being with his family.  At the top of his list were the many camping trips with family and friends that created memories for a lifetime.  He could completely dissemble an engine and put it back together.  He enjoyed drag racing and acquired the nickname “Jake” from his racing friends.  Bob also made friends far and near on his CB radio and was known by the handle “Ram-Rod”. Bob had a smile that brightened everyone’s day and will never be forgotten.  A celebration of life for family and friends will be held December 18, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bremen Community & Performing Arts Center, 214 E. South Street, Bremen.  Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospital of Bremen, in appreciation for the loving care given by the entire staff or to the Bremen Community & Performing Arts Center.
