Shirley M. Carothers

Shirley Carothers, 85, of Bremen Indiana passed away on Dec. 6, 2024 after a brief illness. She is survived by three children, Beth Forbes of Lafayette, IN., Chris Carothers and Tina Crosby both of Bremen; four grandchildren, Alissa (Tyler) Chupp, Connor Forbes, Bryant Crosby and Cameron Forbes and two great-grandchildren, Adalayde and Jenson Chupp. Shirley was born January 7, 1939 to Oran and Sarah Martin of Bourbon, IN and was an only child. She graduated from Bourbon High School in 1957. She married Billy Carothers of Bremen on May 18, 1958. They were married for 65 years until he passed away earlier this year. Shirley spent most of her life taking care of her family and friends. She was very active in the Bremen First Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and helping with vacation Bible School and Awana Clubs. She would serve as a leader in many of her children’s club activities including 4-H and Camp Fire Girls. She was an avid seamstress and quilter. She also loved crafts and painting. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:30 pm on Monday Dec. 9 at the Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd. 331, Bremen. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday Dec. 10 at the First Baptist Church, 414 E. Lincoln St., Bremen with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery.
