Shirley Wilson Barrineau Hirstein, 87, was born on March 16, 1930 to Claude Wilson & Lorree Wilson Askew in Oneco, Florida. On April 23, 1946, she married Mose Barrineau, who died in 1981. They had two children. In 1982, Shirley married Roy Hirstein, who died in 1991. Shirley worked as a professional singer as a teenager. She later worked as a switchboard operator and a restaurant hostess before beginning a career as a dental assistant for Dr. Charles Hassel in Bremen. She retired in 1982. Shirley was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School where she volunteered for many years, helping students learn to read. She was also a wonderful friend to many, often providing delicious food to those experiencing illness or grief. In 2012, Shirley moved to Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa, and in August 2017, she moved to Crown Pointe assisted living in Lebanon, IN, to spend more time with her children. Health problems soon mounted, and she died in Christ’s arms on December 3, 2017. Shirley is survived by her children, Paul (Jill) Barrineau & Holly Barrineau (Michael Mootz), as well as granddaughter, Valerie (Michael) Runyon; a brother, Lamar (Bunny) Askew; a sister, Pat (Stuart) Fleetwood; and her beloved cat, Lily. Visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00 pm, Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 605 S. Center St., Bremen. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 7, 2017 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Pastor Roger Rhode will officiate. Burial will take place in Bremen Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Shirley, may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
