Susan M. (Welch) Hickman, 74, of Bremen, passed away March 14, 2018 in her home. She was born Feb. 23, 1944 in Waukegan, Illinois to William J. Welch and Josephine G. (Paulson) Barker. On April 6, 1963 she married Bob Hickman. They were happily married for 47 years. She is survived by a son Kevin (Heidi) Hickman and their children Dawson, Camden, and Maddux of Bremen; a daughter Kim (Norm) Sellers and their children Trent, Chad, and Kyle of Wakarusa; her brother Bob (Susan) Welch of Orlando, FL, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her father Bill, her mother Jo, and her brother Bill. Most people would not have known about Sue’s many health concerns. As one of her favorite doctors said, “She carried her ailments with grace.” Her positive attitude was an inspiration to others. Her faith kept her strong, as she was an active member of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church. Anyone who knew Sue knew that she had a generous, giving heart. Her compassion for people led to the many hours she spent helping others in the community. She was a faithful volunteer at Community Hospital of Bremen, the local food and blood banks, St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Bremen Elementary book fair, Bremen Health Care Center, as well as driving individuals that needed assistance. Serving others led to many friendships. She always said, “You can’t meet enough people.” Sue loved playing cards and dominoes with her friends. She also loved spending time with her six grandsons. She couldn’t get enough of their hugs. She loved watching them play sports, just as she did her own children. She will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held from 2:00-6:00 pm, Sunday, March 18, 2018 in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd. 331, Bremen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, March 19, 2018 in St. Dominic Catholic Church, 803 W. Bike St., Bremen, with one hour of visitation prior.
