Vern A. Stanley

We are sad to announce the passing of Vern Alden Stanley, 90, of South Bend, Indiana. Vern passed away February 14, 2024. Vern was born January 4, 1934, in Winchester, Indiana to Cora Pauline (Daugherty) and Robert Stanley. He graduated from Winchester High School in 1952. He then attended Earlham College and graduated in 1956. Following college, he served in the 101st Army Airborne for two years. Vern met his wife, Sue Ellen Reese, while they worked at Associates in South Bend. They were married on September 28, 1963, in Bremen, Indiana. They made their home in South Bend, Indiana, where they raised three sons, Robert, Vern, and Ralph. Vern retired from the St. Joseph County Highway Department. He was a volunteer during the 70’s and 80’s for the Warren Township Little League. He was also a season ticket holder for the South Bend Cubs Baseball Team. Vern was preceded in death by his wife Sue in September of 2023 after nearly 60 years of marriage. He is survived by his three sons, Robert, Vern, and Ralph, his two grandsons Luke and Jake, two sisters Evelynn, and Alice, niece Kay and nephew Michael. Vern will be laid to rest beside his wife Sue, in the Bremen Cemetery on February 28, 2024 at 2:00 pm after a brief service in the cemetery chapel.
