Douglass Miller

Douglass W. Miller, 80, of Bremen, died at 3:35 pm, Monday, December 26, 2016, surrounded by his family. Doug was born in South Bend, Indiana, on November 20, 1936. Doug was the son of Richard and Edith (Stahly) Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother, Daniel L. Miller. On August 18, 1957, he married Joyce M. Widmar, who survives along with his daughter, Gwen Schmidt (Miller) her husband, David, and their three children, Jeremy and Carolyn Schmidt (Isabella Schmidt), Margaret and Micah Zastrow, and John Schmidt. Also surviving is his son, Gregory S. Miller and his wife, Jennifer, and their three children, Chad and Kathleen Miller, Kiley Miller and Megan Miller. He graduated from Indiana University class of ’58, and shortly thereafter joined the family insurance business in Bremen. Doug loved his community and was extremely active in Bremen Jaycee, Junior Miss, and his church for 35 years. He also served on various Bremen boards including: Bremen police commissioner, Bremen economic development, Bremen library board, and Bremen Octoberfest. Doug loved to travel, wintering in Pompano Beach Florida, snowmobiling, boating and fishing and his weekly Sunday night phone calls with grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, December 29, 2016 in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd. 331, Bremen. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, December 30, 2016 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery.
